Day 7 - Sunday 15.06.25: A sky full of clouds!

We couldn’t quite believe it when we threw open the balcony doors at 7.30am this morning. Not only were we confronted with a sky full of clouds but the air was cool. Gone was the intense heat we had felt since we arrived and in its place was a coolness and a welcome breeze. With a bit of luck we wouldn’t swelter on the sun-beds today.  We rejoiced in this turn of events in the weather by cooking our six eggs, under strict supervision you understand, and had a lovely breakfast of boiled eggs, Melba toast, cheese, tomato and hummus. We were running late today, well not quite running late, you can’t be late when you’re just ‘going with the flow’, let’s just say we didn’t leave the apartment until 9.25am which is quite late for us. By the time we had walked the three minutes to the Remetzo cafe bar for our frappes the sky was cloudless and the temperature had rocketed again.  All that was left of the sky full of clouds were these little, what looked like smoke signals heading towards Rock. It was going to be another hot day!

We drank our frappes watching the ferry and the ‘Jolly Roger’ galleon boat arrive in port at the same time. The galleon boat looked like it was already packed and it had no doubt come to Poros to pick up more people, but no, we were wrong. Every one on board disembarked, made their way to the waiting coaches and disappeared, probably on some whistle stop trip or tour of the island.

We arrived at our usual sun-beds having diverted to the mini-market to purchases a packet of crisps to accompany our bread rolls. We’d been most industrious this morning when cooking our eggs and had made ourselves some cheese and tzatziki rolls for our lunch. So, what we thought was going to be a slightly cooler day actually turned out to be one of the hottest and we spent most of it huddled under the umbrella in the shade. The wind did whip up about 2.30pm and it came so hot and oppressive we decided enough was enough and trudged home, looking forward to a well earned siesta in our air-conditioned apartment.

We enjoyed our village wine on the balcony where we played five dice……it took so long for us to reach the allotted 1,000 to get ‘onto the borad’ that we had to stop mid-way through and get ourselves ready to go out for supper.  We didn’t want to be late for our 8pm booking!  So when we arrived at the Korali Taverna the ‘head waiter’, who said he was the secretary and everything must go through him, said he didn’t know anything about our booking, which we had booked yesterday in person with his ‘mum’ but he was obviously being funny and we were shown to a ‘Shirley Valentine’ table on the beach. The young daughter, who was helping out didn’t seem to have a clue which table to take any food too and kept getting it wrong, it was quite hilarious and the mother and son were constantly amiably bickering with each other.  It was all very entertaining and we felt like we were watching an episode of Fawlty Towers! We ordered a small Korali salad which was enormous, moussaka which although was very runny was delicious and Briam which Maice said was delicious. We sat and chatted to the couple on the next table and before we knew it we were sat back on the balcony continuing our game of 5-dice (which, and I don’t like to gloat, I actually won) watching the last ferry come in at 10.40pm. It was all very fascinating.

We’re going on an adventure tomorrow, so on that note……

Καληνύχτα …M&A xx
