We woke at 6am to a wonderful sunrise, honestly it was so beautiful it just makes your heart sing. I sat outside on the balcony taking in all this gorgeousness and finished the blog whilst Maice stayed in bed and had a little lie in. After yesterday’s sky full of clouds we were back to a cloudless sky and by the heat of the day so far we knew it was going to be a very hot day. We breakfasted on the balcony, made our cheese, tomato and tzatziki rolls for our lunch and soon found ourselves sat in the Remetzo bar enjoying a lovely frappe. We didn’t get our little biscuit today and wondered if it was because we were later than usual, although that shouldn’t really make a difference…..maybe they’d just run out!

As we were sat in the bar we noticed a few wispy clouds starting to very slowly crawl across the sky. Wouldn’t it be lovely we said if, when we’re sunbathing they can cover the sun for a little while, you know just to turn down the temperature. We shall sunbathe in the hope that this happens. We walked to the beach, taking the short cut where there was a tad more shade and when we came to the beach two girls had taken ‘our’ sun-beds. Of course being the ‘go with the flow’ kinda gals that we are and the fact that we couldn’t do anything about it we sat next to them at the very end of the row of sun-beds. First things first…..the walk had made us hot and sweaty so we sorted out our stuff and went straight into the sea to a) cool down b) have a swim and c) do our water aerobic exercises. The sea was just divine….. again it was like a millpond, flat and still, you couldn’t see where the sea met the sky it was so hazy it gave off this very ethereal vibe. We’re certainly going to miss this when we go home on Thursday ……..Weymouth, as lovely as it is just can’t compete with this whole ambience. We spent the day rotating between the water, sun-beds in the sun, sun-beds in the shade, then repeat. Ah, how lovely it was. We even enjoyed our warm rolls in which the cheese slices had somewhat melted and become all gooey and the tomato had made the rolls somewhat wet and claggy, but by adding some oregano flavoured crisps it elevated our rolls to a whole new level. Remember, these are not just any rolls, these are M&S rolls! We chatted to a lovely couple in the water for at least twenty minutes who were telling us they absolutely love Kefalonia and said it’s their ‘go to’ holiday destination. In particular they love Poros as a destination as do we. Whilst in the water we noticed a few wispy clouds moving slowly across the sky heading for the sun……quick we need to get onto the sunbeds and make the most of it. Indeed, the clouds did cover the sun but they were so wispy they didn’t really make much difference but the temperature did drop a little bit which was most welcome.

We stayed on the beach until 3.30pm, the latest since were been here and headed off to a) the mini-market to purchase a small glass to replace the one Maice had broken the other day b) Magraili bar for a nice refreshing glass of dry white wine and c) to the gift shop to purchase a few bits and bobs for ourselves, as you do! Sat in the Magraili bar was lovely as we positioned ourselves in front of the huge fan which was hurtling out cold air at speed, omg it was so cooling and we really did enjoy those refreshing glasses of wine. Isn’t it just great to be on holiday! We chatted to Emira for a while, she is so lovely and decided we’re going to go back to Totolino Taverna where she works in the evening for our last supper before we leave resort.
We popped into the gift shop and purchased some bits and bobs for ourselves and made our way up the hill to the apartment. There was no time for a siesta so we had a game of 5-dice where the scoring was very cat-and-mouse but Maice won in the end, then we chatted to the couple on the next door balcony. They were telling us that they too love Kefalonia and in particular Poros, so even though it’s a quite little port it does have a charm about it.

Tonight for supper we’re going for a Gyros pitta and headed off to the rectangular square. Well, where had all these cars come from we asked ourselves. The place was full of them and a lot of the tavernas were full and it was only Tuesday night! The ‘front of house/waiter’ guy was very obliging with putting together a vegetarian gyros for Maice (I had a meat one but only because I’m in Greece), we had a Greek salad, carafe of wine and a bottle of water and it was our cheapest meal all holiday at just €23.70…..what a bargain. It was very entertaining sitting in the square watching all the little children zooming up and down on their scooters, a dad trying to get some little lads to kick a ball to each other which they tried but kept kicking it all over the place, it was most amusing and better than watching telly any day.
We eventually left and decided a night cap was in order, so back at the Maistrali bar we ordered a Negroni and Espresso Martini, both drinks were extremely strong, and we sat and people watched, another exciting past-time of ours. The 10.50pm ferry was just arriving so we made our way back to the apartment on this our latest night out since we’ve arrived. Honestly, what are we like!

It’s been another lovely day albeit a long and very hot day and sleep was beckoning, so it’s Καληνύχτa from us, Μ&Α xx
