Day 10 - Wednesday 18.06.25: Is it a bird, is it a plane….no its a fighter jet!

Two things of note happened yesterday which we completely forgot to tell you about. The first, and by far the most exciting was when we were sat out on the balcony playing five dice. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a fighter jet came around the headland and proceeded to roar past us before heading off down the coast. It was most exciting and we were hoping to see another one but alas, it seems he was flying solo. And the second thing of note was when we were sat in the taverna yesterday evening enjoying our gyros.  All of a sudden from the table next to us extended this very long selfie-stick honestly, no word of a lie, it must have been three times as long a a normal selfie-stick, it just went on and on. We don’t know how small it was when it was in its normal state but we can honestly say, we’ve never seen one that long before!

This morning we were both awake at 6am and whilst I sat on the balcony sorting out the blog Maice had another lie-in. We had our penultimate breakfast on the balcony and headed off to the Remetzo bar for our daily Frappe. The ferry had already arrived so we must have got there just after 8.30am, which is late for us. It was actually quite busy in there, in fact it’s probably the busiest we’ve seen it this early in the morning, the majority of the people being from the yachts that were moored in the harbour. It was nice to see it this busy and gave us more of a people-watching opportunity.  I realised when we were there that I’d forgotten my reading glasses so the next question was, do I go back for them or can I see without them? So when we left he cafe to head off for the beach I walked the 902 steps from the road to the apartment and back again and then the 100 steps up and down to the apartment to fetch them. Honestly, I was exhausted when I met Maice where I’d left her, sat on the side of the road.

There was not one cloud to be seen today which can only mean  one thing, it’s going to be a very hot day. You couldn’t see anything on the horizon it was that hazy, ah well, we only have to suffer this for one more day……tomorrow we’ll be on the plane and no doubt freezing in the air-conditioning.  Due to this being our last day on the beach we were going to treat ourselves and stopped off at the bakery where we purchased two doughnuts, two spinach pies and two extra large rolls for the journey home tomorrow. We made the most of being on our sun-beds and the beach, going in for a swim as many times as we could, it was just so lovely and refreshing and cooling, ah yes, we will definitely miss this when we’re back home. As we were lying on our sun-beds we heard some very loud rumblings in the distance which can only mean one thing…..fighter jets! We were poised, ready with our phones to take some shots as they did a fly-past but although we could hear them we couldn’t see them and after about fifteen minutes the rumblings dissipated and all we could hear was the gently lapping of the waves.

Thoughts turned to tomorrow, our departure day. We were being picked up at 10:45am which gave us the opportunity to have breakfast at the Remetzo bar, if we wanted to that is. It was an option but on the way back from the beach we decided to enjoy breakfast on our balcony and then go for a frappe afterward, then come back have our showers are we’d be ready for the off. Sorted!

After purchasing two bananas from the greengrocers we headed to Maistrali for a refreshing glass of white wine. They only cost €4 each, a bargain, considering how much a glass of wine is at home, and they’re a decent size too. Before we went home we popped into the gift shop where I purchased a dress I’d seen the day before and that was it, before we knew it we were sat on the balcony playing rummy and drinking wine. The cleaner will be in for a surprise tomorrow as it seems we over-purchased the other day and we’ll be leaving behind one full bottle of village wine and about four large bottles of water. I’m happy to report that I didn’t lose as many rummy games as previously and actually made up some points, so whereas I was losing by 700 points I’ve narrowed the gap to about 250! You see, it can be done. The maestro can be beaten!

We headed out for our last supper to the rectangular square where we were eating at Totolino, one of our favourite places and we’re happy to report that it didn’t disappoint. We enjoyed a Greek salad, grilled octopus which was so tender and tasty, pitta bread and a small carafe of wine. It was a lovely meal. Also dining in the taverna was lady in green and her husband who we got talking to on the first night. We had a lovely chat with them both, Alan and Joan and once again Joan seemed slightly sozzled, hilarious. Alan even managed to get some sentences in as last time she completely hijacked the conversation. All in all it was a lovely evening and we made our way back to the apartment both of us feeling rather tired and full and went straight to our beds.  Thankfully we’d done most of packing earlier in the evening so we didn’t have much to do in the morning.

On that note, on this our last night in resort, it’s καληνύχτα and see you in the morning xx
