We must be jet-lagged! Last night after supper the three of us retired to the lounge where Maice subsequently fell asleep on the sofa and I was trying not to fall asleep so as be company for Myrna who kept talking to me when I was dozing off! There was nothing for it…..we eventually took ourselves off to our beds at 10pm hoping to get a good nights sleep.

We’re just a few days into our holiday and routine is already beginning to set in. We woke up early, did our yoga stretches and set off on our early morning walk to the Landmark District of Kelowna - the arty part where we stopped off at  the Bean Scene cafe HQ, namely where all the pastries etc are made.  We shared an energy ball to keep us going which was so nice that next time we’re going to have two balls, one each rather than sharing. We sat outside and the temperature was lovely although the smoke was still in the air and the mountains were still not visible.  We watched all the cyclists congregate and when we left we said hello and made a fuss of a gorgeous Bernese Mountain dog sat outside with his owners who ‘thanked us for saying hello, the owners that is, not the dog. Honestly, people are very polite over here.

I would like to say breakfast was a fine affair but unfortunately for the second time this morning I came under attack. The first ‘attack’ was by the low-level beam at the entrance of the bedroom in the basement quarters which when I’m down there I have to ‘duck’ as it’s all very low level. So I thwacked my head and literally saw stars!

The second ‘attack’ was by Jenny, the cat.  We were sat at the breakfast bar where all the food was laid out and Jenny jumped onto the seat next to me and as I tried to shoo her off onto the floor she jumped on my lap which didn’t bode well as I had shorts on and just as I tried to grab her she literally slid down my leg with her claws out thereby causing long scratches down my legs and drawing blood! Oh yes, indeed, my leg was mortally wounded. I jumped or should I say hobbled into action, got a wet flannel and tried to stem the blood whilst applying antiseptic cream to stop any infection. The blood just kept dripping down my leg so I laid on the floor with my left leg in the air to try to stem the flow. After a while it stopped so hobbled back to the breakfast bar and ate my breakfast with my left leg laid across the very tall bar stool….. it was most uncomfortable!

Tara, Maice’s sister was dropping by later that morning so we could make a plan of action of things to do whilst we’re in town and very soon, over a few glasses of prosecco and Ceasars the plan came together and the A4 piece of paper that Maice had meticulously created into a ‘two week plan’ started to fill up. How exciting, it seems we now have something planned for every day with an another list of ideas that may or may not make it onto the planned plan.

Early evening the smoke started to shift and the sun made a proper appearance beckoning us to don our swimming costumes and head off to the lake for a dip. The lake was looking particularly beautiful and serene with the sun just starting to set, the water temperature was just right and our dip in the sea was perfect. We’ve perfected the art of going for a swim taking one small bag with us; costumes worn under our long flowing dresses, quick dry off, dress back on, swimming costume off and that’s it, its so simple. We were just saying to ourselves how lucky we are that Myrna lives where she does, just a ten minute walk to the lake!

Due to the fact that we’d eaten a massive Canadian sized bag of nacho crisps with a rather large pot of creamy garlicky dip when Tara was over, none of us felt like eating anything substantial for supper so corn on the cob and salad leaf sandwiches it was, a strange combo but very tasty!

We were in our beds by 10 pm having started to doze off again on the sofa! I wouldn’t mind we have been taking our daily Berocca for energy plus we shared an energy ball this morning. Yes, I think we most definitely need to have one ball each!

Here’s another little M&A musing……’How do you console an English teacher? Their, there, they’re’

Good night, as they in Canada!
