Yoga done we set off on our brisk walk towards Lake Okanagan and came across the Kasugai Gardens, Kelowna’s very own Japanese gardens, well who knew. It wasn’t open when we arrived but by 9.00am we’d gained entry and in we went. The gardens are fairly small and compact but it was nice to wander round and there was a pond full of some really big Koi carp. Fifteen minutes later we continued on our walk down to the lake and strolled along the promenade where we passed a) the very posh Delta hotel with its manicured lawns and meandering stream running through its grounds b) the sea plane jetty where two sea planes were moored and c) the very posh town houses with their boats moored outside their properties, ah, how the other half live. It was a lovely morning, albeit cloudy with a chance of meatballs, oops, meant sunshine and it was lovely and warm. We found a very nice place for coffee at the Eurobean cafe opposite the art gallery which neither of us have been to before and we must say they served a very nice cup of cappuccino….and it was hot!

We returned home looking forward to our breakfast for on the menu today was yoghurt with hemp hearts, smashed avocado, cheese and hard boiled eggs but oh dear, when we peeled the eggs, which had been in the fridge, they were frozen. Not only were they frozen under the shell, they were frozen inside too. Seems Myrna’s fridge is a tad on the cold side! Katana arrived after breakfast and we headed off to the Uni Nails Nail-bar where Myrna, Maice and Katana were having a pedicure and I was having a manicure. And why not give ourselves a treat, we are on holiday after all, well Maice and I are anyway.
Feeling a tad peckish we deliberated where to go for lunch and decided on FWSY (Frankie we salute you), a vegetarian and vegan restaurant in the Landmark area of Kelowna, where we went to the market the day after we arrived. On the long wall across from the restaurant there was this amazing mural of the artists interpretation of wild horses running across the outback. It was truly magnificent, very striking and one of the best murals we’ve seen. Having photographed the wall we made our way inside, sat down and ordered our lunch. Carrot, ginger and lentil soup for Maice with a mushroom wrap on the side, and mushroom ceasar salad for the rest of us, washed down with their trademark homemade lemonade. It was really tasty and a meal we all enjoyed. It’s quite an unusual name for a restaurant and we wondered about its origin so of course we had to ask the question. So, as the story goes, Frankie and Frankie were two father-in-laws, one served in the army in the UK in the 2nd World War and produced ‘victory’ gardens whilst the other was an arboriculturist in Canada. So the family decided to ‘salute’ the two Frankie’s for their services to the war effort and how they encouraged people to plant victory gardens not only to supplement their rations but also to boost morale.

After lunch we headed off to the food store to pick up some provisions for tomorrow’s supper as Ruth, Myrna’s neighbour was coming for tea. Of course we wanted to impress so we came up with a lovely recipe, actually we didn’t, we’re having salmon and roasted vegetables which we had only a few days ago but she won’t know that. After the food store we went to the liquor store for more liquor to a) top up Myrna’s alcohol chest (again) and b) take some wine and Prosecco to Tara and Dave’s as the three of us are going there for supper in an hour! Shopping sorted, we headed off to Rutland where Tara and family live with their very large Labrador dog Miller and numerous cats, some of them house cats, others not house cats! We met Jackie there, a friend of the family who amazingly has just sold her property, bought a huge RV and is going to drive down, on her own to Mexico to overwinter there for six months. She’s over 60 so Jackie, we salute you. What an amazing and brave thing to do at that age, truly inspirational. So, there we all were, sat outside on the patio enjoying a drink or two when, and can you believe this, one of their cats caught a mouse and proceeded to eat it for supper just in front of us! Dave came to the rescue and confiscated the ‘cadaver’ then disposed of the body somewhere out of our sight. Honestly, it’s enough to put you off your cheese nachos, which was on the menu for supper.

We were keeping an eye on the time as tonight it was the ‘Supermoon’ and we wanted to see it in all its glory. Of course just when it was time to view it at 7.34pm according to all the newsfeeds, we sat down for supper. We kept nipping outdoors to see if we could see it but we couldn’t and it wasn’t until an hour later it showed itself above the hills. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see it transcending up from the horizon and looking huge, but what we did see looked good and we’re glad we saw it.

After dinner we explained to Tara that we’d finally cracked the card game Dutch Blitz and with that we played with gusto and fervent excitement at least ten games. There were six of us playing and the table was in chaos, there were cards flying everywhere, there was most definitely some skullduggery going on from various players (yes, you know who you are) but in the end it was Tara who was victorious. After such frivolity we introduced the sedate game of Telestrations, a party game in which players are prompted to sketch a word listed on a card, then guess what the other players have drawn which was also great fun. All ‘gamed’ out we headed back home arriving back at 11.30pm…..our latest night so far! What’s going on, we’ll soon be known as M&A the party animals!!
Talk about party we hope our friend Johnny Fiori, proprietor of The Horse with the Red Umbrella had a lovely day yesterday which just so happened to be his Birthday. So a very happy and belated birthday to you 🎉.
And on that note we’re off to our beds. We believe Myrna has got us down for doing some household chores tomorrow…….well, won’t that be fun!
Night all….M&A xx

Had a lovely day thank you, showered with multiple bottles of wine from customers who also sang THE Song!! Looks like you’re having a blast xxxxx
