M&A

Canada September 2024 - Day 9: Is the Bean Scene now a ‘has bean’. Step aside…there’s a new cafe on the block!

Today we were doing chores for Myrna. Chores around the house after which we were hoping for a leisurely afternoon before entertaining Ruth the neighbour who we’d invited round for supper.

After our early morning yoga session we got ourselves dressed and headed off along the road towards the Landmark area of town. We wanted to get more photos of the wild horses mural but we forgot today is Wednesday and it’s market day. When we were here the previous week we didn’t see the mural because a) the market stalls were in the way and b) it was raining and we had the umbrella up so didn’t notice it. So today we couldn’t get any good photos due to the stall holders being in the way again. Never mind, we’ll just have to come back another day.

After our disappointment we deliberated about where to walk and decided we’d cross the road bridge and see what was on the other side of the road.  We could see some green open space that neither of us have explored before, even Maice hasn’t been on this side of the highway so here was an opportunity to go explore this area of town. There was lots of open space with outdoor gym equipment dotted along the pathway which of course, being M&A we had to have a go on every one….you know us fitness fanatics, we like to make the most of any keep-fit opportunity that comes our way.

Having made it around the park we followed the signs to the Downtown area and came across a lovely little coffee house called Craft 42 Roasters tucked away in a back street behind the park. We sat outside in the sunshine which by now was very hot and enjoyed our cappuccinos which was probably the best coffee we’ve had so far. The two guys who ran it were such a lovely couple and were really pleased when we complimented them on their coffee and how nice and fresh and vibrant the cafe was.

We walked back home with sore and aching feet which is what happens when you walk every day over 10,000 in flip flops……it’s not exactly the best footwear for long walks, particularly on concrete.  Maybe tomorrow we’ll have a bit of a rest and put our feet up, or at least do less walking. Back home we had a lovely breakfast which included hemp hearts sprinkled on our yoghurt. We’ve never heard of them before but they are really tasty and incredibly good for you, so they’ll most definitely be added to ones shopping list on our return to the UK. After breakfast Myrna had us carrying our a variety of chores around the house; Maice was up and down the ladder dismantling the large ceiling lights and Myrna was washing them whilst I was in charge of the hoover. Then we cleared space in the sun room to accommodate the arrival of the treadmill that had been donated to Myrna by Tara and Dave. Now she could do a spot of indoor walking every day and work her way up to getting her 10,000 steps in!

The rest of the afternoon saw us sat around the ‘kitchen island’ drinking Caesar’s, chatting, catching up on our admin and then discussion turned to how we were going to get to Tracy’s house the next morning. So, to cut a long story short Tara ‘reached’ out to Tammy, who is Tracy’s sister, then Tammy updated Tracy that Maice and her ‘friend’ were in town, then Tracy ‘reached’ out to Maice who ‘reached’ back and said “yes” we’d love to come round for coffee on Thursday morning at 9am.  We talked about walking over there but when we looked at the distance and how long it would take to walk and it said 2.2 hours!  Myrna was horrified that we’d even contemplate walking that far and to be fair, so were we. So Myrna very kindly said we could take her car and drive ourselves there and of course not ones to argue we accepted the offer. Having not driven anywhere yet on our own I’m sure this is bound to be an experience.

Whilst all this was being planned Maice was preparing tonight’s supper and I must say she cooked us a lovely meal of salmon, roasted vegetables, new potatoes and broccoli.  It was most delicious. It was a lovely evening and a good time was had by all. We were all tired when Ruth left so we decided on an early night. We’ve a busy day tomorrow and we need to have all our faculties with us as a) Maice is driving and b) I am navigating!  Enough said!

Night all…..M&A xx
