Overnight, the finger had developed a very large and swollen multicoloured bruise which was really rather spectacular and had also traversed from the finger to the whole of the back of the hand. Ice packs were administered and the patient told to return to bed and to keep the hand in an elevated position.
As usual we both woke at 5am but got up much later as we had our ‘holiday admin’ to sort out after which we participated in a twenty minute Yoga with Adrienne session. Fully stretched and in the ‘zone’ we set off on our brisk walk around the neighbourhood on what was a lovely sunny morning. We decided to walk in a different direction today and go west, well we think we went west. To be honest we’re not quite sure in which direction the four points of the compass lie but hey we’ll work it out. We crossed the highway and walked into downtown Kelowna, along the promenade and past the harbour until we came to the Ogopogo, a mythical green sea monster that has lived in the lake for millennia. It looks very much like the Loch Ness Monster, but that’s grey, according to ‘sightings’ so we can only imagine they are distant cousins!
Our coffee stop this morning was at the Sprout Artisan Bakery and Cafe which had an ethnic vibe to it. We enjoyed a lovely cappuccino, our most expensive yet, although to be fair they were in large cups and they did have a motif on the top and we sat outside, al-fresco, in the sunshine. It was lovely. Whilst ordering our coffee’s we’d spotted some triangular shaped savoury scones which looked absolutely delicious and thought we’d purchase three for breakfast. Maice with kitty purse in hand was in the queue whilst I went to the ‘washroom’ and on my return found Maice staring at me and gesticulating to the empty plate where only minutes before had lain six triangular scones. Seems the woman in front but one had purchased all six of them! Now we were in a dilemma as we were so looking forward to having them for breakfast. Maice disappeared off to the washrooms and I was left to ask the server if there were any more available so he disappeared to the bakery next door and hurrah, he appeared with three more which of course we purchased. Maice asked if I’d given a tip which of course I hadn’t. Are we supposed to tip when being served at the counter? We don’t know, it’s all very confusing. We’ll have to ask Myrna when we get back what is the correct tipping etiquette here in Canada.
Back home we introduced our triangular scones to the breakfast table and enjoyed a lovely brunch, it was 11.30am after all. Tara was coming over after noon and we were off to a the local craft market in downtown Kelowna which incidentally we’d passed this morning on our walk and had picked up a free gerbera for Myrna. On the way to the market we stopped off at Peaches and Cream cornfields to pick up some corn for supper. These are so fresh as they’ve literally just been picked but hey, how lucky were we to buy the last twelve cobs. They were huge and smelt so fresh we look forward to eating them later this evening.
Onwards to the craft market it was then. It was huge, there were lots of stalls inside and out and Tara, who knows everyone in Kelowna more or less stopped at every single stall to chat to the stallholders. As we perambulated around the market we managed to taste various samples of wine, vodka, mead, Perogies…..you name it, if it was on offer we’d taste it. Naturally we all purchased some treasures to take home with us but bet you can’t guess whose treasure this insulated cup now belongs to? After spending hours slow walking around the craft market we visited two liquor stores to get what was needed to replenish the liquor chest in Myrna’s lounge then returned home where the four of us sat around the table to play Dutch Blitz, a very fast paced card game. We totally confused ourselves reading the instructions and although we played a couple of rounds we were unsure if we were playing correctly. We could see the potential in the game, we just needed more time to re-read the instructions at least ten more times and to practice, practice, practice!
Deciding on a much calmer game we played Sequence, a game we all know and we’re happy to report that a) we all understand the instructions and b) M&A won the game! Dave (Tara’s husband) and Katana then arrived with ‘snacks’ to add to the ‘snacks’ already on the table. We were supposed to be having the corn cobs for supper but we’d eaten too many snacks so no doubt we’ll be eating them over the next few days.
Myrna introduced the Canyero salted caramel rum to Tara and Dave who like Myrna absolutely loved it and immediately searched Google to see it they could purchase it here in Kelowna which apparently they can. But hey, surprise, surprise, we’d only gone and brought a bottle over with us for Tara and Dave much to their delight.
Tara, Dave and Katana left around tennish and we made our way to our beds at 10.30pm, most definitely a late night for us. We can’t believe we’d actually managed to stay awake that long but then that’s what happens when you’re enjoying yourselves and its been a really fun day and night. Who knows what the plan is for tomorrow, we’ll have to consult the calendar, something about the cinema and consignment shopping was mentioned somewhere!
On that note, it’s goodnight from ‘M’ and it’s goodnight from ‘A’…….xx
