Canada September 2024 - Day 13: It’s all about family….!

M&A

It had been a long day spent with the Real Housewives of Kelowna but despite yesterdays shenanigans we woke up feeling quite bright and cheery albeit we did have a lie-in and didn’t surface until 7.30am to partake in today’s yoga.  My knees didn’t really want to a) get out of bed b) straighten up or c) do a twenty minute yoga session but they were slowly coaxed into it and after a fairly tough workout they hated me. Hopefully a good walk will help to ease them up and bring them back to normality.

We set off clad in our jumpers and cardigans not wanting to be caught out with the weather again and headed off to the Landmark area of town where the walled horses are located. I wanted to get some photos of them as I’m thinking of making some canvas pictures out of them to hang on my wall at home. We’ll see….it all depends how good the photos turn out.

On our walk today we considered popping into Bright Jenny’s, a coffee shop that we’ve not yet been to however what we didn’t realise when we were out and about in the Landmark area was that there was a Bean Scene coffee house which we’ve not been to so in we went. It was really big inside and turns out this one was the Bean Scene HQ where they roast all their coffee and make their own bakery items. We purchased two cappuccinos which not only looked lovely but tasted lovely and a savoury scone which looked dry but was actually quite moist and very tasty.

Back home we engaged in our usual breakfast routine and sat down to our usual breakfast of lemon water which acts as a detox, two slices of toast, boiled eggs, marbled cheese, and ‘Krema’ vanilla yoghurt topped with hemp hearts. Delicious. We’re going to miss these breakfasts when we get home as I doubt neither of us will manage to sit down at our breakfast tables and have a leisurely breakfast, even at the weekends. So there’s the challenge. We have to make time to eat something every morning, even if it’s only the yoghurt with hemp hearts. Thing is we don’t think we can purchase this yoghurt at home!

This afternoon we’re off to The Eldorado Hotel and meeting up with Tracy who we met the other day for coffee at her house and her two sisters Judy and Tammy. Tara, Kerris and Dave are also coming along and came to pick us up just after 1pm. We were all dolled up and were hoping to sit out on the verandah overlooking the marina but can you believe this, on the drive there it started to rain so that put paid to that! It was a lovely get-together. Judy and Maice hadn’t seen each other for about 44 years, Tammy and Maice hadn’t seen each other for 27 years since Tara and Dave’s wedding and Tracy and Maice met two days ago! Myrna hadnt seen them all since Tara’s wedding so they all had a lot to catch up on. Talk soon turned to the ‘mystery woman’ that everyone kept talking about in conversations over the years. Who is she and where is she Judy, Tammy and Tracy enquired. So as we know, Myrna is Maice and Tara’s mum but that’s not actually her real name or the name she was born with. No, Myrna was born Laureen, you know, sounds like Loreen who won the Eurovision Song Contest for Sweden but with an ‘au’ instead of an ‘o’. But Myrna wasn’t keen on the name Laureen and decided she wanted to be called Myrna, which apparently is of old Irish origin. As you can imagine, over the years people who didn’t realise that Laureen had become a Myrna were totally confused and thought there was a mystery woman in the family. So, now they know. They have been enlightened and the mystery that was Myrna is a mystery no more!

There was lots of noisy chatter and laughter around the table, Caesars were consumed, cocktails were drunk and enjoyed, food was appreciated and soon it was time to go home. It had stopped raining by the time we left so we tried to get everyone out on the jetty to take some family photos, but like yesterday, it was like herding cats so Maice and I took advantage of just being the two of us out there, struck a few poses and managed to take some group photos out front to mark this memorable occasion.

We were dropped back home around five-ish and flopped into the comfy chairs for a quick siesta although I think I was the only one who engaged in this. Myrna and Maice were both industrious with their iPads and next thing we know is that Maice has cooked supper consisting of Perogies, dumplings of Polish origin and brought over to Canada by both Polish and Ukrainian immigrants in the 19th century, and left-over roasted vegetables from the other day.  It was all very tasty and washed down with a bottle of Moët & Chandon champagne that had been stashed in Mryna’s alcohol chest for numerous years!

We ended the evening with a couple of games of Sequence before heading off to bed. It’s been another lovely day where family came together and rekindled their relationships after so many years. It was so nice and long may it continue….

Good night all….M&A xx
